R8 Spyder is based on the 525PS, 5.2-litre FSI model, but features a bespoke body incorporating additional weight-saving carbon fibre composite panels as well as the all-important fully automatic lightweight fabric hood. Good for a 4.1-second 0-62mph sprint and a top speed of 197mph, the R8 Spyder is available to order now in six-speed manual and six-speed R tronic automated manual forms.

The Spyder offers an impressive list of standard and optional features. For example sensational surround sound from Bang & Olufsen. Some 14 speakers and two amplifiers create 465 watts of superb sound, balanced to suit the acoustic properties of the car’s interior. A second digital signal-processing amplifier takes output from standard stereo sources such as CD players and even the telephone system and creates stunning five-channel surround sound. The Bang & Olufsen sound system is standard on R8 Spyder.

Clear speech Bluetooth connectivity. By integrating three microphones into the driver’s and passenger’s seatbelts the standard bluetooth interface gives the best possible speech reproduction even with the roof down. This innovative technology is the first of its kind.
